I don't think I like Grocery Shopping anymore!!!!!!!!!

When I was in my freshman year of high school I took Home Economics! I learned how to prepare my menus, how to shop, how to store our groceries, and how to cook. I really enjoyed learning how to prepare my menu by checking out the newspaper ads and building my menu around them. That was a lesson I continue today......well, let's just say its been a few years.

Yesterday I sat and prepared my menu for the next 2 weeks using the on-line ad where I do most of my major shopping. I always allow 20 main entree's.....that way I have extra for weekends. I prepared my shopping list. Then I checked in the kitchen and pantry and marked off the items I already had and added items that I needed.

This morning I took Rich to work and then went grocery shopping. The store I shop at in Roseburg.....Thunderbird.....is open 24 hours a day. I love getting there at 5:30am............not a lot of people shopping just the people stocking the shelves.

I didn't have a very big grocery list this morning. Thank Goodness!!!!!!! I only purchased 39 items and it came to $62.94!!!!!!!! I used to be able to almost fill a grocery cart for that price........for crying out loud I didn't even buy ground beef this morning. We'll be eating ground turkey when I get that big bird thawed out that I bought on sale before Thanksgiving and all ground up. I bought very little produce or dairy products.

I hope that we get a tax refund this year. I want to go to the grocery wholesale store and stock up on staples......flour, sugar, pasta, oil, etc. It costs quite a bit to stock up on these items.......in the long run I feel it is a savings.

Well, I better get off my soapbox and return to town. I need to visit with Dad and Mae for a while and then I have a couple of errands to run before I pick Rich up from work at 2:30pm. After he gets off work we have to go to Walmart for Rich's eye exam.

Hmmmmmmmmm......wonder if I can talk Rich into going out to eat after his appointment.

Hey there Shirley, Thank you for stopping by my blog and becoming a follower..I see you live in Oregon..we lived in Vancouver for 3 years and loved it..loved the tax free shopping over in oregon...do you have an albertsons near you? if so. go to www.pinchingyourpennies.com
and go to state forums..then screaming deals by state..you want to go to UTAH as Shelly has all of the bargains listed...(my little sister is getting me to save so much money in coupons etc..you only want to buy the 4 and 5 star items..they are usually highlighted in red on the left...you can print up a shopping list and then shrink it and then print it...its at the top of the list...when you see the items you want.. it will tell you to go to this site and you have to sign up..(I use the same sign up each time and password..it just makes it easier that way..then you can print 2 coupons for each item..if you have 2 or more computers in your household you can print 2 from each computer..pretty neat huh...when you do the list..say for example its the buy $25 dollars of these items and get back such and such...then only buy the said items totalling the $25..then when you get the coupons they give back to you..go back and shop again and get your items on your shopping list and use the coupons for this next transaction.. and so forth...I did it 3 times one day...I shop put in in the car and go back in again..that way they can't say anything to you..they can get grumpy..but since you go so early in the morning..you will have no trouble..I hope this helps cause with the way the economy is going these days..we need to get our food storage in order in case we do fall on hard times and it won't have cost us that much...have a great weekend..and I hope you got to go to dinner...:)

Shirley, Thanks for stopping by my blog and following! Good luck with my giveaway too!

I agree with Cat Nap. Have you checked other resources to help you scout grocery deals? Forums like Pinching Your Pennies can be a little confusing for beginners but hang in there.

I suggest you read alot of blogs like mine and you can go to BeCentsAble and scroll down for some great bloggers who cover lots of grocery stores.

I personally love my Kroger and only started coupons back mid-summer 2008. So far for Jan I have purchased $1107 and paid $378. Not bad! Way less than $1 per item too for 475 items.

Good luck shopping in the future and saving money!
